Sushil Ramola is ‘DueNorth's mentor and visionary

He imagined the possibility of ‘DueNorth’ having child like curiosity combined with the wisdom of a corporate veteran. For thirty years he has been leading various corporations in India and abroad. To give back to India he nurtures sustainable organizations. This led him to collaborate with BASIX, a pioneering microfinance and livelihood promotion organization. He is the CEO of B-ABLE, “BASIX Academy for Building Lifelong Employability” founded across India to serve youth who could not complete their school education. “DueNorth” is a community based development, rejuvenation and creative reinvention of a village in his home state of Uttarakhand. Sushil received a Gold Medal in Chemical Engineering and completed his Post Graduate Degree in Management at IIM, Ahmedabad.

Micro Home Solutions, New Delhi

Micro Home Solutions (mHS) is a strategic partner with Due North, a multi disciplinary social enterprise, working towards sustainable housing solutions for poor and low-income households. The team brings expertise in community, finance and design to develop sustainable housing models. mHs is working with DueNorth to restore traditional mountain architecture to promote tourism in a beautiful rural hill station location in India. Due North's vision is to create multiple responsible tourism destinations in order to provide the villagers with an additional source of revenue. Co-founders are Marco Ferrario and Rakhi Mehra. Marco is a professional architect, graduate from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. Rakhi is a Rhodes scholar and an MBA from Harvard. www.microhomesolutions.org

Alalya Design Studio, Dehradun

Alaya Design Studio is a design-led social enterprise based in Uttarakhand. They work with crafts and skills based producers in the region to produce a range of handcrafted Furniture, Lighting and Home Accessories made from 100% natural and renewable materials such as Bamboo, Natural fibers, non-endangered Wood and assorted Recycled Materials. Being based in the Himalayas, a lot of their products reflect the craft heritage of the region. Alaya Design Studio works closely with traditional craft communities indigenous to Uttarakhand. Designer couple Joshua Paljor Hieshey and Richa Ghansiyal founded Alaya Design Studio. Joshua Paljor Hishey is Principal Designer at Alaya. He is a graduate in Industrial Design from the Kendall College of Art & Design, Michigan, USA. Richa Ghansiyal holds a Masters Degree in Rural Development from the University of Sussex, UK. Prior to that she graduated in Industrial Design with specialization in Furniture from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India. www.studioalaya.com


DueNorth, under the aegis of E2F, is working with NABARD in the two most impoverished blocks of Tehri district of Uttarakhand under WSHG project. NABARD is set up as an apex Development Bank with a mandate for facilitating credit flow for promotion and development of agriculture, small-scale industries, cottage and village industries, handicrafts and other rural crafts. It also has the mandate to support all other allied economic activities in rural areas, promote integrated and sustainable rural development and secure prosperity of rural areas. www.nabard.org
